Calcite, Pyrite – Dalnegorsk (RU)

Dalnegorsk is known for its extraordinary crystals. But I have never seen anything like this one before. It is a palm-sized calcite crystal, partially overgrown with pyrite crystals. What is particularly interesting is the sequence of crystal growth, which can be traced very clearly. First, the large calcite crystals grew, which were then overgrown by tiny pyrite crystals. Later, a second generation of calcite crystals formed, but these do not cover the entire step, allowing the previous generations and minerals to still be seen. An extraordinary piece for the location.
